Tournaments

Gamerbase hosts a number of different tournaments for a variety of genres. These tournaments are aimed to introduce gamers into the exciting world of competitive social gaming and offer incredible prizes to those who not only excel, but also take part!

Below are some examples of the types of tournament types we host, and then a tournament FAQ for anyone with questions about them. If you have any questions which haven't been answered, please don't hesitate to contact us directly, and we'll add it to the FAQ.

The Frag Lotto is aimed at rewarding the casual gamers who prefer to just have great fun rather than competing seriously. In this type of competition, even the player who finishes last could have a chance at walking away with a prize!

The Frag Lotto system works as follows.

Every Frag or point in game earns that player one lotto ticket. At the end of the event all frags or points made by the player will be added up and calculated into lotto tickets.

Then all eyes will be on the gamerbase tournament organiser as they draw a number using a random generator, the player with that lotto ticket number will win the prize! Using this system often rewards players who finish even outside of the top 10 scoreboard.

The better players will have more tickets and therefore have a better chance at winning, but even if you finish with just one point you still have 1 chance of winning the top prize.

We've encorporated the Frag Lotto system in a number of our events and modified it to suit different tournament styles. For example - in a Leaderboard Season (below) we use the Frag Lotto system to calculate a winner of a very large prize after 12 weeks of events.

Free For All events usually take place using Deathmatch settings in First Person Shooters such as Call of Duty, Quake and Medal of Honor etc. In this style of tournament players of a variety of different skill levels all join a single server and it's every man for himself!

Gamerbase regularly hold tournaments using this format as it's the easiest to jump in and start fragging!

A typical FFA tournament will often involve 1 or more dedicated servers, running a number of different levels. After completing a level, the gamerbase admin will record the kills/points from the match and enter it into a spreadsheet.

After the tournament has finished and the scores have been collated, the Admin will announce the top 3 players in kills/points and these players will win prizes. The admin will also place all the points accumulated from players outside of the top 3 into the Frag Lotto system and one lucky player will receive a prize for taking part!

Ranking Battle seasons are often used within the fighting game community. This style of tournament is spread over a number of events (usually 6 full day events, running every fortnight). Ranking Battles are the ultimate way to ascertain who is the best in the region as it requires excellent results in each of the events to become the season champion.

Each of the 6 events run as independant tournaments, with a group stage followed by a single elimination tournament bracket. 2 players from each group are seeded from previous tournament results.

Points distribution:

1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 8 points
3rd place = 6 points
4th place = 4 points
Top 8 = 3 points
Top 16 = 2 points
Group win = 1 point

The player with the most points overall at the end of the season will win the grand prize and be crowned the Ranking Battle Champion for that game.

Leaderboard Seasons can be used in a variety of different game types. Gamerbase usually hosts Leaderboard seasons over a series of 12 events running weekly. Leaderboard Seasons often attract players as it progresses, and by the end of the 12 events there could be 100's of individual gamers who have taken part through the gamerbase community!

Each of the 12 events are run as mini tournaments, feeding results into the Season Leaderboard to determine the season champion at the end. For each of the events there are usually credit based prizes or gift vouchers rewarded to the winners and Fraglotto draws. The final leaderboard will also have Fraglotto rewards to encourage casual gamers to take part in multiple events.

These seasons are an excellent way to promote online links between the gamerbase centres, and we often have multiple players from each venue battling it out online to rack up the points in the leaderboard.

Score Attack tournaments offer a way to play competitively at any time using games which have high score results. Gamerbase have held a variety of different scoreattack tournaments from Tetris to Guitar Hero, and it's proved to be one of the most exciting styles of tournament available!

Typically a Score Attack will revolve around setting the highest score you can, on a chosen game style or track in the case of Guitar Hero. Players are invited to take repeat attempts at trying to beat their own scores and others on the leaderboard.

Once scores have been achieved, a member of the gamerbase team will be on hand to verify the score and take photographic evidence of the result to upload along with the score. The top 10 players in any score attack will be displayed on the right of the gamerbase homepage, clicking on the tournament will link you to the tournament promotional page which has the full list of scores from all entrants.

Typically we reward the person with the highest score with the grand prize, but there are often a number of Frag Lotto rewards for those that fall outside of the top 3 players, so theres something for everyone to play for regardless of skill level.
